For twenty-five years, Il Basilisco Restaurant inhabited the same place. A familiar and recognisable restaurant, shaped over time by the people who visited it, the encounters, habits and memories that became part of its history. Moving to a new location raised a question that went beyond simply designing a new space: how can continuity be created without replicating what already existed? The project began with this question. The aim was not to recreate the previous place, but to rediscover the conditions capable of generating once again that sense of familiarity and belonging that had been built over time. A restaurant is a particular kind of space: it is inhabited for only a few hours, yet within this short span of time, encounters, conversations, celebrations and moments unfold, destined to become memories. The project addresses this dimension through a careful construction of atmosphere. Light, proportions, materials and the design of the spaces contribute to defining an intimate and measured environment, capable of welcoming without imposing itself. It is within this idea of continuity, not formal but emotional, that the project took shape. A new place, conceived to continue a story already begun and to accompany the great cuisine of Diego and Kozue.
