Piazza M. D'Aviano2013 - San Polo di Piave, Trevisocompetition, 5th place

with Giuseppe Passuello

The project covers an area of 2,000 m2 that encompasses also a share of the riparian zone on the left side of the river Lia. The site is a focal point of San Polo di Piave, being the crossover from the center of the town to the neighboring countryside, prefiguring a possible touristic trail of the river and the plain, the beating heart of the Piave vineyard. The design of the external space sprawling in front of the square wants to be the structural element fostering the active role of the citizens in taking possession of the area, rather than just a way to fill an empty space between the buildings that surround it. Hence, the structure is simple and easily manageable: external spaces are defined by shapes, textures and colors that rouse the users from indifference, allowing them to create the place itself, by attaching to it a complex pattern of feelings and perceptions.
